Would you like to explore the southern archipelago using public sea transport? The southern archipelago traffic consists of four routes operated on behalf of Västtrafik.

Styrsöbolaget offers safe and comfortable boat trips to wonderful islands such as Styrsö, Donsö, Vrångö, and Brännö. Let us take you on a delightful journey through the beautiful archipelago of Gothenburg!

Lines and destinations:

Line 281: Stenpiren/Saltholmen to Bratten, Skäret, Donsö, Sjumansholmen, Kårholmen, and Vrångö.
Line 282: Stenpiren/Saltholmen to Köpstadsö, Styrsö, Källö, Vargö, and Brännö Husvik.
Line 283: Stenpiren/Saltholmen to Asperö and Brännö Rödsten.
Line 284: Saltholmen to Knarrholmen and Stora Förö.

What does a public transport trip cost?

Västtrafik offers convenient and affordable options for you to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the archipelago or perhaps commute by boat between the archipelago and central Gothenburg. You can purchase your ticket through Västtrafik’s app, To Go, at ticket machines, or from the deckhand onboard. On most vessels, you can also pay with your bank card. If you have a prepaid account or a travel card, you must present it at the card reader when boarding.

Boats to the archipelago depart from Saltholmen

When traveling to the southern archipelago with public transport, our routes mainly depart from Saltholmen, with some services also starting from Stenpiren in the city center. You can easily reach these locations by tram or bus. If you are traveling by car, you can park at visitor parking areas near Långedrag tram stop, and during the summer, also at Hinsholmen. There are a few designated parking spots for those with special accessibility permits at Saltholmen, close to the dock.

Traveling from Saltholmen in Gothenburg

Tram line 11 runs year-round to Saltholmen. During peak hours, which means Monday to Friday and daytime on Saturdays, bus line 114, also known as Ö-snabben, runs from the city to Saltholmen. When the summer timetable is in effect, tram service is extended during the day with tram line 9.

Saltholmen location on Google Maps

At Saltholmen, parking spaces are available exclusively for visitors with a disability permit.

Other visitors are directed to parking areas near Långedrag tram stop and, during the summer, also at Hinsholmen. Digital information boards are located just before Långedrag and display the number of available spaces in different areas. All parking spaces are subject to fees.

From Långedrag, it is approximately 1.3 km to Saltholmen. You can either take the tram or walk to the pier at Saltholmen, which takes about 15 minutes. Please ensure to arrive well in advance of your boat departure.

On sunny days, parking at Långedrag can fill up quickly. If possible, it is advisable to take the tram all the way from the city to Saltholmen, or to board the boat directly from Stenpiren in the city. Note that there are limited departures from and to Stenpiren.
